We are always keen to welcome new members of any age.

Playing lawn bowls gives you fresh air and exercise with the season running from April, to September.

The popular myth is that "it is an old person's game" but this is not so, indeed Nationally there are many members ranging in age from primary school to well into retirment ages.

It is also a highly social game and there is often the opportunity for a good old yarn or friendly banter (provided it doesn't impinge on concentration on the game!).

Each season we hold "come and try sessions" to allow anyone interested to have a go without any obligation. These are publicised locally by posters and Social Media. No one needs to wait for those days if they are interested and we will always find a way to allow you to have a go at a convenient time and with guidance from one of our more experienced players.

We will provide the equipment needed to try the sport and you only have to wear flat shoes.

Our dedicated contact for new member enquiries is Nanette Brice who can be contacted by email (click here) or by phoning 07847998528 - don't delay - get in touch today.

To help prepare you here is our jargon buster

:

Jack (or Kitty): the small yellow or white ball which is bowled to start each end of the game.

End: play in one direction on the rink. Play flows in
alternate directions. Most matches have 18 ends but there are exceptions.

Wood or Bowl: the large ball that we use to try to reach the jack. Woods come in varying sizes and weights.

Mat: stood on to deliver the wood.

Green: the entire lawn area of the Club.

Rink: the area of the Green that is used for one game. We have four rinks.

Skip: the team Captain who gives directions to the
others in his team.

Types of games:

Singles: one player against another.

Pairs: two players on each side

Triples: three players on each side

Rinks or fours: four players on each side.

League: inter Club organisations.
